Scientific Notation Calculator

Convert decimal numbers and powers of ten into scientific notation, E notation, engineering notation, and decimal form.

This scientific notation calculator converts regular numbers and exponent-based values into formats that are easier to read and compare. Paste a value such as 1250000 or 4.2e-7 and the tool rewrites it instantly.

You also get decimal form, E notation, engineering notation, and the order of magnitude. That makes the calculator useful for homework checks, lab notes, spreadsheets, data analysis, and quick sanity checks when numbers become too large or too small.

Accepts decimals, E notation, and formats such as 3.2×10^5.
Controls how the mantissa is rounded in the result.

Conversion result

Enter a number and run the converter to see matching formats.

Use clear inputs to get a more useful result.

Method: the tool normalizes the input, shifts the decimal point until only one non-zero digit stays on the left, and uses the number of moves as the base-10 exponent. The significant-digit selector controls the displayed mantissa, while decimal form keeps the full readable number. Engineering notation groups the exponent in multiples of three, which is often more practical for SI units, electronics, and measurement work. For cleaner results, avoid mixing decimal separators and thousand separators in the same field.
